My mom raised me by herself, from the age of two, while working full-time as a healthcare assistant in operating theatres. She is the one who keeps the surgeons instruments clean and organised for when it comes to an operation.
The Moorlands - Christmas, 2018. My mother, Beverly (56), and grandmother, Maureen (80). Both of these women have given their lives to the healthcare industry and to supporting their families independently.
My grandmother was an industrial launderette worker for a company that cleans hospital bed sheets for the NHS. Towards the end of her career, and after my grandfather was forced into early retirement with poor health, she became so angered by new management structures making the girls (as she called them) lives on the floor difficult that she went into a board meeting and gave the entirely male directorship a piece of her mind…
